Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis is generally defined as a drug or alcohol addiction in conjunction with one or more co-occurring mental health disorders.  Often, these kinds of disorders can range from depression, to anxiety, manic or bi-polar disorders, as well as types as PTSD.  When considering dual diagnosis drug treatment, it is important to consider the onset of the various mental health issues.  If these problems seemed to come with the drug or alcohol abuse, this is not what is considered to be dual diagnosis, rather a symptom of drug or alcohol addiction.  However, for the population of addicts and alcoholics who have suffered from mental health disorders from a time prior to addiction, dual diagnosis treatment can be the most important part of recovery.  WIthout treatment of both the addiction and the mental health disorder,  one problem can easily feed the power of the other, leading to a cycle of mental health problems and addictive berhioral problems.  If you or a loved one is suffering from dual diagnosis drug or alcohol addiction, it is important to seek proper treatment immediately as the combination of mental health disorders and addiction are very complicated to treat, and all the more dangerous.

Addiction treatment is always multi-layered, consisting of many different stages on the path to recovery from addiction and alcoholism.  Often addiction treatment will begin with detox or detoxification (physical  removal of the drug or alcohol from the addict's  body).  After detox, the more in depth treatment usually begins with a mixure of counseling, meetings and rehabilitative structure consitent with the methodology of each addiction treatment center, whether it is holistic, christian based, alternative, 12-step or anything else.  Because addiction is so  complex, it effects not only the addict, but also the familiy of the addict, as well as those close to the addict.  In doing so, addiction becomes a family disease as opposed to an individual disease and most addiction treatment organizations incorporate family resources and counseling in their treatment program.  Not only is the family involved  in the recovery process, but sober living is typically offered once treatment is completed,  All of these elements make the path to recovery from addiction a complex, but resourceful and helpful one as well.

Alcoholism  is one of the most insidious and dangerous of all addictions known to plague our society today because of the wide acceptance and social normality of alcohol consumption and abuse.   Of all addictions, alcoholism can be the most dangerous to withdraw from as well because of its physically addictive nature.  During the detox process for alcoholics, depending on the severity of the alcoholism, withdrawal symptoms can range from moderate to severe and potentially life-threatening.  Alcoholism treatment and rehabilitation consists of many of the same practices which can be found in the wide variety of addiction treatment centers world-wide.  While there are many addiction treatment organizations which treat alcoholism exclusively, alcoholism is classified as an addiction and alcohol is classified as a drug, leaving no difference between the problems associated with alcoholism versus those associated with drug addiction.  The treatment of alcoholism, whether christian-based, 12-step based, alternative,  holistic,  gender specific,  of otherwise focused on the same core issues as with any addiction and aims to give each addict the tools necessary to live a life free from alcohol and drugs,

Drug addiction treatment is a vital part of recovery from chemical dependency.  Although there are a wide variety of drugs plaguing our society today, drug rehab has consistently been a successful method to treating addictions of all kinds.  As well as alcohol, cocaine, heroin, meth, prescription drugs, OTC drugs, acid PCP, ecstasy, and marijuana addictions can allbe successfully treated in a drug rehabilitation center with hard work and caring professionals  to help.  Although there are many addiction treatment organizations that may specialize exclusively in either dug or alcohol addiction, the method of treating one or the other isn't so  different. The goal of any drug rehab program or alcohol  rehabilitation center is to teach addicts and alcoholics to live their lives free of allchemicals and  substances.  These basic principles are the focus of most drug treatment centers, no matter the methodology of the treatment.
