I had the privilege of volunteering at The Last Resort PA recently as a massage therapist. I am a mental health professional as well having worked in the field for over 30 years. The Last Resort PA (TLRPA) setting was comfortable, clean and quite lovely not unlike a B & B. It was an atmosphere of relaxation and respite along with a palpable feeling of warmth and sincerity. The Generosity of Spirit was infectious! People helping people with a variety of things from cleaning/cooking, car repair, grief work, navigating a new area and how to get the cigarette away from Paulie (the huge Macaw!)...
It is a thoughtful blend of 12-step program, mind-body-spirit/metaphysics and body work (yoga, acupuncture, massage). I have worked some Alcohol/Drug programs (sorry Malibu!) and I have to say, I have never experienced there what I experienced at TLRPA. Warm acceptance of "human becoming" and self-empowerment. It was evident that "We're All in This Together" was a pervasive and welcoming theme threaded throughout my visit.
Thank you to each and everyone of the guests who trusted me enough to work on them and with them. It was an honor and I look forward to returning soon.....
Warm Regards, Joni Moses-Bernard
