Trinity Drug Addiction Treatment Center is located on the 4th floor of the former St. Joe’s Hospital. It was the former location of where you went for depression, anger management, anxiety disorders, or other types of psychological evals and other mental health services. Walking in, the place still looks, smells and seems like a hospital.

This substance abuse treatment center may know some about behavioral interventions, but the jury is out how up to speed the staff is on the science of the addicted brain. Biomedical research & the new discoveries that have developed in the addiction arena have opened up worlds of new possibilities for *tailored* addiction treatment and prevention strategies. Yet Trinity still appears to adhere to the 'one size fits all' program.

Trinity's program appears to have a, “you need to be punished” mentality, rather than a rehabilitative atmosphere. Inpatient family counseling for drug and alcohol is lead by a 60+-year old woman. It doesn’t take a mental giant to realize this is not in the best interest of a young male. Family counseling involves the addict listening quietly while family members tell the addict everything he or she has done wrong over the years and how he/she has hurt you. When comparing this treatment center with others in the eastern part of the state, a Fargo addiction counselor told me we don’t use the “blame and shame” format as we’ve found, “it’s non productive.”

Trinity staff admits to a 13% success rate. Employees rarely smile and infact appeared angry much of the time.

If you are looking for inpatient drug and/or alcohol treatment centers, North Dakota has many. Because Trinity is affiliated with a hospital, fees will be thousands of dollars higher compared to ones I found in the eastern part of the state.

My son left this facility more angry than before he entered. Older women counselors, a program of chastising, lack of tailored strategies for the client - maybe these are only some of the factors why the success rate is what it is.
