Alternative to 12-step recovery?

In all the talk about recovery from addiction, all I ever hear about is meetings and 12-step. It seems that all recovering addicts and alcoholics have become religious and embraced Christianity - for the most part. Is there any other way? I think to myself that there has to be a non 12-step, non religious way to remain in safe recovery from addiction. I've been hearing a lot of opinions recently about these super rich celebrities going into rehab that operates more as a vacation home than a drug and alcohol treatment facility.
