I am an addict and was kept afloat in my addiction by my parents. They provided me a home, car, and all the nessecities I needed including money for cigs. But what they didn't know was that I was stealing money and abusing their trust by buying heroin and lying to their faces about it. When I got arrested they always came to bail me out and provide me with a lawyer. It wasn't until they hired someone to have an intervention on me we they able to stand up for themselves and kick me to the streets. Money ran out fast when I wasn't able to get my hands on their debit cards so I gave in and went to a detox and inpatient facility for 2 months. Now I'm back here doing sober living and going to college and working to support myself. Sometimes enabling someone is hard not to do because you care about someone so much like my parents did but only when they stopped did I realize where my action had brought me and was able to start building my own life. The program in california called Action Recovery saved my life as well as my parents being educated on addiction and not enabling me any more. It was hard for them to do at the time but know we are all alot happier. Colin - ColinB
