Hi
A young heroin addict drugs. She had marks up and down her legs from skin popping. These patients know the pharmaceuticals better then we do. She was from Indiana, was homeless and here with a serious cellulitis. I wondered how she traveled without money or a homeplease advice them to take a drug treament program.

I can only suggest that health care providers who discover people far from home and addicted to drugs to be compassionate. Try to form a bond of trust and encourage the victim of drugs to contact family who will have the greatest influence on the addict and to suggest treatment. Many addicts are afraid of treatment centers because they know nothing about treatment centers. We need to educate them and reassure them they won't be behind bars. Treatment centers are voluntary and many are very pleasant environments. Education is the key. Treatment centers posting their centers on this forums are not doing anyone any favors. Addicts need to know that treatment centers can be pleasant, therapeutic environments. My experience with addicts who have been to hole in the wall treatment centers will absolutely never try treatment again. Please don't sully this wonderful, supportive forum with cheap shots. Advertise your treatment centers here so families, loved ones and addicts can see what the center looks like and what the addict can expect. Been there, done that and failed to rehabilitate my loved one. Because he went to a hole in the wall.
