I am now 30,and has been a drug addict since I was a late teen. I made the wrong choices and have been in and out of trouble,,prostitue,homeless, with no self esteem. I had a baby 9 1/2 years ago, whom my mom has legal custody of and has been living with her for the past 7 yrs. I has been in several rehab programs. My family has tried to be there for me, but they also have applied "tough love" I am currently in a 1/2 way house and doing execellent. I have been clean for 14 mos, which is a big step for me. I can finally think about the future. I am really trying to get my life back on track and reconnect with my family. The problem now, is my teeth. Due to the herion, I needed to get my teeth pulled, which I did a couple of weeks ago. My mom, helped pay for that. My welfare insurance, paid the rest. I now needs dentures, but due to my med plus plan, it is not covered. The reason I am writing this, is in hopes of some assistance. My mom is willing to pay some it, but can't afford all of it.. They are $2000. I want to get back into the working world and unfortunatly, because of my appearance, I feel I will not be accepted. Unfortunatly and fortunatly, appearance is very important in the drug free world. I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to where grants are available for recovering addicts.

First of all, congratulations. You've come a mighty long way and you have a lot to be proud of. Just continue to take it one day at a time.
I wish I knew exactly where you can turn for a grant, but perhaps starting with your state's department of health and human services might help. Alternatively, you might try calling SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) at 1-800-729-6686. They may have some information about any programs, if they exist.
