Safe Harbor Treatment Center
I am disgusted by my experience at Safe Harbor. Velvet Mangan(S.H. owner) only pretends to care for the girls. In all actuality, she only comes around the facility about once a week. She makes her money by getting people to pay upfront for 90 days, then she kicks them out at the drop of a hat, without refunding the remainder of their money. Once she gets you in, she gets you out so she can get another poor vulnerable girl in to write her another check. The name "Safe Harbor" is a joke. The homes do not even have locks on them. While I was living there, we discovered a peeping tom who would come stand at the windows, smoke cigarettes, and watch us undress(there are no window coverings either.) One of the girls called the police when we discovered him. The next day, Velvet literally screamed at that girl because "when there are police cars in front it makes safe harbor look bad," and "you don't ever call the cops unless there is someone in the house with a gun." While i was living at Safe Harbor, I got the flu. On the second day of being sick, my counselor Danelle brought me into the office and sat me down. She went on to tell me that she had talked with velvet and they decided that I was sick because I was depressed, and I was depressed because I was not working my program. This was far from the truth, and they knew it. I stayed in bed during down time, but i still went to EVERY class, meeting, and therapy session (not to mention, I was far from depressed.) Then she said that if I was still sick within the next day or two, I was going to be kicked out. I was doing everything that I needed to be doing while I was sick, and there were four other girls in the house who were sick as well. Anyone with half a brain would know that I probably caught the flu from someone else who was sick. I sat there listening to this, crying my eyes out. After danelle was done talking to me, she told me i looked horrible and that I needed to go put some makeup on. Me being sick was just an opportunity for Velvet and Danelle to kick me out, steal my money, and get someone else in the house so they could take their money. I ended up getting kicked out, and the Safe Harbor staff gave me 10 minutes to say goodbye to everyone and pack up my stuff. Then they had one of the other girls drop me off at the airport. That was it. I would absolutely not EVER recommend Safe Harbor to anyone. The owner and staff are cold and heartless, and clearly only care about themselves.
