I read one of these reviews, saying unity is a scam.Well if Unity is a scam it is the best scam I have ever been too.I had been to 3 rehabs before Unity, and the longest I ever went without drinking was a month.I literally drank so much that when i tired to quit on my own I started haveing seizures, and I kept doing this until I had a brain aneurism bust in my head.I had brain surgery where the doctors told my parents that even if I lived I would be a vegetable.Well when i came out of the coma I was in I was fine. But the doctors told me if I ever drank again that it would kill me.Well that really doesn"t matter to an alcoholic. So right after I got out of the hospital I started drinking.I ended up back in the hospital. My mom had been beging me to go to a rehab and I final said I would. She had been talking to the owner of Unity personal, and she had been telling me how she really thought that he would care. The drunken stuper that I was in at the time, I think that is the only thing that got threw to me,why I have no idea. But that was almost a year and a half ago, I had one year sober in November. And right now if I was haveing a bad day and needed someone to talk to I could pick up the phone and call the owner or my counsler and no matter what Jason or Jen was doing they would stop and talk to me.Now you judge for yourself but to me that is careing! To sum it up I think Unity is great and you guys keep up the great job..
Sincerely Deaths door :)

This facility is a scam. The website is deceiving, and the owner runs his operation strictly with a profit-driven mentality. Only of the therapists has experience with addiction, and you only see your therapist once a week for thirty minutes. The owner could care less if you get help or not, as long as he gets your money. This facility will face a class-action lawsuit in the future if they continue their deceitful business practices, and I STRONGLY recommend against going to this facility if you want help in recovery. The owner, Jason has lied to several patients by telling them he would help them financially in order to stay in his facility. After their treatment is up, he forces them to pay the cost. Believe me, this happened with three patients when I was there. I had a very nice counselor, but she didn't know anything about addiction of alcoholism. To sum up Unity Recover Center in one word: SCAM!!!!!!!

To whom it may concern,
My name is Matt (Ronald) Banasiak. I was a client of yours from Jan through Feb 2012 and completed 31 days of treatment at your recovery center. Let me start by saying that my stay was anything but sanitary or satisfactory. Your medical staff as well as your non medical staff or techs were completely unacceptable and unprofessional. No one at all seemed to be interested in the clients best interest or well being and we were not treated with the dignity and respect that we should have coming from the treatment center that apparently “leads the way” as stated on the Unity Recovery web page. Please allow me to elaborate.
I arrived at Unity Recovery Center late Thursday evening and was placed in 9018 Hobe Sound dr. I had not yet gone grocery shopping and had nothing to eat for breakfast the next morning as well as lunch. I finally went shopping and got to eat dinner for my first meal Friday evening. Before I could eat I had to wash dishes because there were no clean ones and the dish washer was apparently broken and was full of nasty dirty dishes with molded food on them. I can only imagine how long those dishes had been sitting in their molding away. The dishes that I cleaned I even had to keep in my closet in my room so that when we came back to the house I knew I had clean dishes to eat off of. I couldn’t even sit at the dinner table to eat because there were no chairs. In fact the entire stay I had to fight for a spot on the couch or love seat in order to eat my breakfast, lunch, or dinner off of a coffee or end table. The house held seven people and had seven beds but only had one couch and one love seat holding a total of five. We had to bring in a rusty lawn chair from outside and an office chair to make extra seats to accommodate everyone in our living facility. My second night I went to take a shower and was afraid to touch the shower curtain because it had mold spots covering the entire thing. There was also mold around the entire tub and had seemed to be covered with caulk and pieces of trim. There was also a thick line of mold (about ¼” to be exact) lining the underneath of the soap holder. I complained to your staff (techs) numerous amounts of times and nothing was ever done about the mold in the bathroom my entire 31 days of treatment. At one point your tech Suzy even said she would get me some brushes and bleach so we could clean it. I just want to point out the fact that I was a customer of yours and it wasn’t my job to come there and clean the mold out of the living environment that you provided for us. Also your tech Mike had argued with me about cleaning the place every week and said that we should clean the moldy bathroom but he didn’t understand that it isn’t my job to clean what I walked into when I first came to Unity and that I was the client. I understand that the mold is still there after talking to your client Jeremy two nights ago. I just want to ask, is this the type of respect that you think your clients at Unity deserve? Did you actually think I was going to walk into Unity roll up my sleeves and go to work for you, or did you think I was there for recovery? To be honest I wasn’t quite sure and I am still baffled by the response given to me by your staff.
By my second week we grew sick of the unsanitary living environment and a few clients and I took it upon ourselves to sanitize and clean the entire household. It took four of us (Tyler, Anthony, Jimmy, and I) approximately 5 hours of our free time on Saturday to clean and sanitize everything, that’s how dirty our living environment was. We cleaned out every drawer, cabinet, inch of floor, both of the fridges, both microwaves, moldy dishes in the dishwasher, stove, and more. We didn’t even have rags because your tech Shawn would not give us any. Instead we used up the communities bundle of paper towels filling four trash bags full of them. We also filled a trash bag full of moldy expired food from 2009 that was sitting in both of the fridges. This was not the living environment I expected to walk into coming to Unity Recovery Center. The house had evidently not been cleaned or maintained properly in a few years. While cleaning out one of the drawers I found a cleaning log that was last signed in 2010. I understand that your techs are no longer responsible for making sure the clients maintain a clean living environment, at least that was the impression that all of your clients living in that house got while spending 5 hours sanitizing and cleaning instead of working on our recovery. I also never received any hand towels or wash rags and only one towel. For the first week I had to scrub with my fingernails instead of using a wash rag during my showers. I had to complain to my therapist in order to receive them because the techs would not give them to me. When your tech Kim finally gave them to us (dirty, I had to wash them) she had the nerve to ask who in the house complained about it which was completely irrelevant and unprofessional. The only thing that should have mattered is that we got the supplies we were supposed to have received the first day of treatment.
Our washer machine was also broke and was replaced by another washer that took approximately two hours to fill with water. So it took about four hours per load of laundry. Not very efficient for a house that holds seven clients. We complained and Unity sent out the maintenance crew to fix it. The maintenance guy that came over, did some work on it and said it was fixed. My housemate Anthony Sofo checked it and it was still broken. He had to run out and tell him before he took off in his truck. He said he would be back but never returned. We complained on a daily basis to the techs and your solution to the problem was to use the neighbors. We weren’t at the house all day to do laundry and as you can imagine, it would be pretty hard for 11 people to do laundry with one washer machine, not to mention not very efficient. It took numerous complaints and about five days to finally receive a washer machine that worked (which by the way, was leaking water on to the dry wall). We informed the techs about the water leak, which they came and used a piece of plastic to divert the water into the drain pipe instead of making sure it was fixed properly. Completely unsatisfactory! This is still a potential health hazard, and will cause the dry wall to rot and mold.
By my third week in treatment we still had not received a new dish washer. At this time I was so frustrated with the quality care, or lack of, that Unity was providing their clients (including myself) that my gratitude journal that my therapist had given me had become my Unity complaint journal and I started logging the incidents as they happened. I shouldn’t have had to do this but the care and respect given to us by your employees by this time was so horrible that I actually felt obligated to. I hoped that logging these incidents and writing a letter after treatment would catch the attention of someone at Unity and that things would change so that future clients would not have the same horrible experience that I did while undergoing treatment at Unity Recovery Center.
Allow me to share some of these incidents with you. One day we were supposed to go to the beach at 3:30. The tech house kept telling us Dan was on his way to get us. We waited over an hour. Once again we could have been doing something productive instead of waiting at the tech house. Anthony Sofo and I asked Dan what the holdup was and he said he had to wait on Gary but Gary had left at exactly 3:30 with other clients to the gym. It was evident that this was just an excuse. This didn’t surprise us because at this point we didn’t expect much from Unity.
Friday Feb. 3rd. Tyler Faviere and I went to get our night time meds at 10:20pm. There was the last girl in the tech office receiving her meds so we sat on the porch and waited to get ours. The tech Shawn came by and made us go back to the house until we were called for meds, (which was always supposed to happen but never did) so we went back to the house. By 11:10pm we still had not been called so once again we had to go get them on our own. The techs proceeded to do their change of shift first while we (the clients) had to wait even longer. I finally got my meds at 11:30.
Saturday Feb. 4th. Our house didn’t get woken up until 8:25am and we were supposed to leave to the center at 9:00am. I ate breakfast, showered and shaved (because I didn’t get to the night before due to all the people in our house) and never got my morning meds. When I asked Kim and Shawn about this they said I was supposed to use my alarm clock to get up, which I usually did. She also said that she woke us up at 8:00am but everyone in the house said it was 8:25. Also I was the only one that had an alarm clock so how do you expect everyone to get up on their own?
Tuesday Feb. 7th. Tyler and I asked Shawn to get our RCA jacks for the TV from the girls’ house because they had borrowed them and we wanted to watch a movie before bed. He said not right now as he smoked his cigarette in the street. I asked what he was doing right now and he said he was busy. Tyler said “fine ill get them myself then” and Shawn warned him not to go to the girls house because we weren’t allowed to. Tyler had to wait by the tech house for a girl to come by and get her meds so that we could get our RCA jacks back when someone that worked at Unity could have got them instead of being lazy and giving us (the clients) unnecessary attitude.
These maybe light complaints but these incidents are just a few brief descriptions of the type of respect that your employees give to your clients on a day-to-day basis. It is completely unprofessional and if I knew this was the way I was going to be treated I would never have came to Unity Recovery Center. In fact, I wish I would have chosen another treatment center.
As these complaints grew over time I would bring them to my therapist’s attention because she was the only one that would listen and agree that Unity was wrong. Finally she set me up with a meeting with James. She said that he would listen to my complaints but would not listen to my solutions or what I thought should be done concerning them. It states on the back page of your client rights that Unity would in fact listen to any solutions or ideas that the clients would propose in order to improve the program. This was evidently just lip service (just like anything else Unity would say it would do) so I respectfully declined the meeting with James. Once again Unity had proven to me that their word and their policies were worth literally nothing. We were also supposed to have representatives from each caseload as well as a president to help enforce rules etc. which never happened except for the president. No wonder the house was so nasty when I arrived, you cannot even abide by your own policies that were made to keep order in store.
I would like to present to you a more serious subject and incident that happened during my treatment at Unity Recovery Center and demands prompt attention from you and your medical staff. During my second week of treatment I had started to develop some sort of itchy rash and bumps or bite marks on my arms, fingers, butt, and groin area. At night I would itch horribly and I could even feel what felt like tiny bugs moving all over my skin and especially when I was in bed. I complained to the tech office more times than I could count on my fingers and toes and they would just tell me to wash my bedding which I did constantly. At first I thought it was bed bugs. I noticed that I wasn’t the only person getting this rash and it made me believe even more that you had some sort of bed bug infestation. I went to see Nurse Lisa one day and apparently a lot of clients were complaining about this rash because I wasn’t the only one there to see her for it. She kept saying that it was probably the “no see me” bugs. I told her no I don’t think so and told her that I kept feeling bugs or something crawling on me. She told me that was my imagination because I thought they were bed bugs but I knew this wasn’t true. She told me she didn’t know what it was exactly and that they would get to the bottom of it and they would figure it out tomorrow and I could see the doctor for it. Of course I did not believe anything would get done so I told my therapist about it. She walked me back to the nurse’s office to assure me they would handle it. When we walked in and Heather asked her what the diagnoses was Nurse Lisa exclaimed “oh pesty is back”. She proceeded to tell Heather and me that she didn’t know the proper diagnoses and she would figure it out tomorrow. I carried on with my day after that hoping that I would receive the proper medical attention really soon because the itch seemed to be getting worse and worse and was keeping me up at night.
The next morning we went to the center for our normal daily classes and activities. I stopped in to have my rash or bite marks looked at by the doctor. The Nurse had me and another client named Matt go in to the doctor’s office at the same time. The doctor said “more of you have this rash?” Matt had it all over his fore arms and said it itched horribly. I told the Doctor of my symptoms and where I had it. The Doctor told Lisa the Nurse that they would have to get a microscope to check everyone’s skin and our bedding at the houses. As I had figured, knowing how Unity operates and treats their clients, nothing was ever done. I finished approximately two more weeks of treatment complaining the whole time and nothing was ever done to diagnose the problem. No microscope, no skin test, no nothing.
I completed my 31 days of treatment and went home with this itchy rash and bite marks (whatever they were). After a few days home my rash was worse and worse. I went to see a Dermatologist and he told me right away that I have a seriously contagious skin disease called Sarcoptes Scabiei (Scabies). Due to the complacency of your medical staff I have now possibly, if not surely, infected a dozen of my family members and friends with Scabies to include my four year old daughter which now all require medical attention and treatment. As you know this costs money for doctors visits and money for prescriptions and not all of us are fortunate enough to have medical insurance. Not that it is your fault that it costs money but it is your fault that I had not received the proper medical attention and diagnoses while I was under your care at Unity Recovery Center. With the proper medical attention I would not have came home spreading this disease to others. Also due to the complacency of your medical staff, who knows how many of your other clients left treatment with Scabies? Everyone should have been treated properly, to include all of your clients because most people don’t know they have Scabies for up to 30 days. Sadly, I believe your medical staff suspected this and figured it would be too much work for you. I hope that I am wrong and you investigate this problem which I am sure is still probably spreading throughout your community. Scabies, as I have figured out through experience now, is not easy to get rid of.
I request and believe I deserve a written response back from the proper Unity Recovery Center representative concerning the type of service and medical treatment that I had endured during my 31 days of treatment. I would like to know if you think this type of treatment and respect concerning your clients is acceptable. I would like to know why the living quarters were so unsanitary and nothing was done about the mold in the bathroom. I also demand an explanation why there was absolutely no effort put into finding the right diagnoses for the spreading rash throughout your community, and why you did not bring in a microscope so that the proper tests could have been administrated. If you did not have the right tools to do the job you should have made the proper medical professional available to the clients in order to diagnose the problem. This is a very serious complaint and I hope that I can trust you will do the right thing to prevent any of these issues concerning your facility from arising in the future. As for now I demand a full refund or reimbursement for my entire 31 days of treatment due to the unsanitary conditions as well as the horrible medical care and service I had experienced from Unity Recovery Center. I believe a reimbursement is the only thing that will make this horrible business experience right. An apology letter is also deserving but isn’t going to be sufficient enough. If you don’t believe that a reimbursement is necessary I would like to know the reasons for this. I thank you for your time and prompt attention in this matter and expect to hear back from you very soon.

Sincerely,

Unity Rehab Center is not a good place and I do not recommend sending your loved ones there.
for one all they care about is taking your money. The housing is in a regular low income nieghborhood with drug dealers one street away. The Housing consist of 4 plexes with men and women in the same building, there is very little supervision if any. clients are constanly sneaking into each others rooms and having sex, there is also a lot of clients sneaking out to get drugs it is very easy to do because the lack of organization and supervision at Unity. Unity paints a pretty picture about its self on its website don't believe any of it. It is just facade!! If you truly care about your loved ones you will not sent them to Unity. I wish I didn't.

Words can not express the gratitude I hold for the staff at Unity Recovery Center. The staff is very professional, well educated and treat the clients with the utmost respect. I have struggled with alcohol addition for about 20 years and have been in and out of both inpatient and outpatient facilities but none were successful for me until i found Unity. Jason, the therepists and the medical technicians are very hands on and truely care about each clients recovery. The education is extremly thorough, I learned coping skills, relapse prevention and the reason this addiction was ruining my life. I now have a much happier and healthier lifestyle. I am very involved in alcoholics anonymous and have developed a strong support system. I am grateful not only for everything I learned at Unity but the friendships I developed with my therepist Jen and other clients.

My experience with Unity Recovery Center was life changing. From the owner, to the techs, the staff was involved with, and dedicated to me beyond my expectations. I couldn't have imagined as I was making the decision to go to treatment the work and progress I would eventually make with my therapist at Unity. My therapist's devotion was unbelievable. The staff at Unity also stuck by me every step of the way in planning my discharge, recommending and arranging my transition into a halfway house as well as developing an individual relapse prevention treatment plan.
Unity saved my life.
