A Sober Way Home advertises a program for "Men 50 to 75". My personal experience is that this is definitely not the case.
Older clients are treated just as the younger immature clients are, like thirteen-year-olds. Older clients ride in vans with younger clients eight times a day, where younger clients are loud, profane, immature, and disrespectful of staff. There are no special treatment sessions for mature clients; they attend all the same sessions that younger clients do. The only two gestures for older clients are that they live in a house where all the clients are men are 40 to 60 years old and get to ride on the front bench of the vans.
While the five hours of group therapy a day (minus smoke breaks) Monday through Friday are fairly well structured, the rest of the day is not. Those times are chaotic, unprofessional, and demeaning towards older clients. There are no sessions on weekends.
While most of the staff are friendly and helpful, there were two standouts.
At best, it's a place to tolerate, not a place to grow in recovery. I left after 36 days, rather than stay for the planned 90 days. I just couldn't stand it any longer. Don't even consider this place.
