Christian Rehab

Christian rehab looks like almost every other type of drug addiction rehabilitation on the outside.  On the inside, however, a Christian drug addiction recovery program has more to offer than one that is simply based on psychotherapy and abstinence.  While either type of rehabilitation can be helpful there are some who will simply benefit more from the community that is fostered in a Christian setting.  For Christian addicts, they find that attending a secular rehabilitation program does not provide the support that they have been taught to seek out.  A Christian rehab center, on the other hand, provides exactly the support they need.

So how do you know when you or someone you know needs to find a Christian rehab center?  There are several signs that you should look out for.  The truth of the matter is that if you find yourself acting different than you did before you began abusing drugs, you are probably battling an addiction and need to seek help.  If your views and habits have changed dramatically, this is a bad sign.  For example, if you used to be very social but now you find yourself staying home because getting high is more fun, this is a sign that you need help.  On the other hand, if you used to be someone who was content to sit at home and now you find that you need to be out of the house most of the time, it is also time to seek help.

Christian rehab and secular rehab are very similar.  The both have the following characteristics:

Drug addicts seeking treatment can choose between in patient and out patient clinics.  The type of clinic a drug addict chooses is based on several factors: his work schedule, what he can afford, his system of social support, etc.

Both Christian and Secular drug rehab centers focus heavily on psychotherapy—both on an individual basis and in group settings.

Christian rehab incorporates the therapies and medical information that is shared at a secular drug rehabilitation center, but it brings more to the table.  At a Christian drug treatment program the drug addict will attend regular church services.  He will also attend bible study classes and discussions.  When a person chooses a Christian drug treatment program he can look forward to spiritual discussions and be taught about Jesus Christ's philosophy and the philosophies of other biblical scholars.  He or she will learn how to incorporate Christ's teachings and find inspiration in spiritual resources to help him (or her) stay sober.

Figuring out which Christian rehab program is right for you takes some work and a lot of honesty.  It is not a good idea to base your rehabilitation upon the person you want to be or the person you hope to become when you are sober.  You need to be honest with who you really are and what you are most likely to respond to.  If you are timid, you might do yourself more harm than good if you choose a rehab facility that bases its philosophies on confrontation.  On the other hand, a rehabilitation center that is based on comfort and coddling might be boring to someone who thrives on conflict.  There are a couple of drug and alcohol treatment centers in Florida that have very popular and very successful Christian rehab programs.  One such program is Transformations Treatment Center in Delray Beach, Florida

Most former drug addicts swear that it was a Christian rehab center that helped them get sober even after they had tried other programs and relapsed.  One of the reasons that Christian rehab is more successful than strictly secular drug addiction rehabilitation is the sense of community that is fostered in a Christian setting.  The regular church attendance is easily picked back up once the drug addict has left rehab.  The church attendance provides a built in system for positive pressure.  Drug addicts who went through a Christian drug rehab program are also taught to find solace in God and to trade their addiction to drugs for an addiction to faith.  They take comfort in the ever present Holy Spirit and the knowledge that there is someone watching out for them from above.

One of the benefits of attending Christian rehab is the aforementioned positive pressure that is provided by the Church and its community.  Instead of surrounding yourself with people who will hope that you recover, you will be surrounded by people who will actively step in to help you stay sober.  You will also have a regular schedule of church services and meetings to hang on to for stability.  Christian rehab is the best option for people who are afraid to face their addictions and get sober alone.
