There are several levels of treatment available for alcoholism, and most of them include medically managed, monitored, and hospital-based treatments which can last for an average of two weeks. Detoxification and therapy are also available to patients in rehabilitation programs.

In-patient or out-patient?

Many addicts can benefit from inpatient treatment. However, there are also individuals who may qualify for outpatient or day treatment, which is also a lot more affordable. The effectiveness of the outpatient program is largely dependent on the center offering it. For the program to be successful, it must educate the patient and address inner issues that led to his addiction. The outpatient program must also teach the patient new life skills that he can use to start fresh when he is finally free from drugs and alcohol.

No single solution

It is important to note that there is not a single addiction treatment available for everyone—it is not a one-size-fits-all concept. Every individual is unique and they have different reasons for getting addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
