Drug Treatment Centers, Alcohol Rehab Programs and Drug Rehabilitation - About the Founder...

"I don't do drugs - any more. I had a problem with drugs and alcohol for ten years - actually, if one considers the ongoing consequences of addiction and alcoholism, I have had a problem with drugs since I was 12 years old, and still do at age 31. I'm in recovery today, and have been for some time now, and dedicate a large amount of my time and life to helping others that are or at least... were... like me. What I have learned in my years in the business of addiction treatment and dual diagnosis since getting sober, is vast, and this website is intended to help those like me, and the families and friends of individuals who suffer from drug addiction and alcoholism. I have also learned that we have to help one another - and this is my humble attempt to try to give back to an industry that has helped save my life. Perhaps it's fitting that I just turned 31, I have just entered my 30's, the real "grown up" years as many consider them, when adults finally graduate from their roaring 20's and build a life, or settle down with the one they built in their twenties. I have been doing that since age 26, and prior to that, from age 16 to 26, I was in so many ways... useless - a drug addict with no direction, no purpose, no spirituality, and absolutely no idea of how to be sober or find recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism and keep it. And it wasn't for lack of trying. I went to detox, drug rehabs and dual diagnosis treatment centers scores of times during my years of addiction. I went to drug rehabilitation centers, treatment centers, recovery organizations based on twelve step model recovery, behavioral modification, psychiatric therapy - you name it. Literally 15 times or more probably. I say probably because much of it is a blur." - Bernard Grohsman

The Treatment Centers Website

Treatment-Centers.net is meant to be a resource of information about addiction and alcoholism. So I am writing to offer my personal message of hope, and to say thank you to the visitors to this website, to the drug and alcohol treatment centers and rehabilitation organizations who taught me so much, and the professionals who helped guide me, who provided resources and a a roadmap to recovery to people of all ages, children, adolescents, teens, adults, drug addicts of every type. I have worked in this industry in every capacity imaginable other than personally owning a drug rehab center. And I strongly believe in websites of this type.. My belief about the question "do I have an alcohol or drug problem" is a very simple one. If life - any aspect of life - has become unmanageable in any way as a result of the use of a drug, multiple drugs, or alcohol, then there is an alcohol or drug problem. It's that simple. And that's where the internet is both a blessing and a curse. The internet is by far the most complete source of drug and alcohol addiction information and dual diagnosis treatment information in existence, and it grows by huge amounts of data every single day. However, sifting through it is not something that an individual that has the drug addiction or problem with alcoholism and dual diagnosis themselves should be doing, and the information is also of a type that people that aren't drug addicts or alcoholics can't relate to, or often don't understand. That's where organizations like us, informational sites, directories and referral organizations have their value to the public. Treatment-Centers.net for example is a public benefit organization - a resource that is free to the public, where qualified and experienced drug addiction and alcoholism experts - most often individuals who have been there themselves, who are themselves in recovery from drugs and alcohol - can share their experience in how to overcome drug addiction and alcoholism. The cardinal rule of recovery, and any recovering drug addict, alcoholic, the twelve steps, and pretty much every other recovery methodology out there is based upon, is that we can't find recovery alone. Call these organizations, use our experience, strength and hope, ask for help. It is the first step to a new life free from chemical dependency and substance abuse.

A Message to our Visitors

Drug treatment is needed when drug addiction creeps into our lives. Treatment centers are designed for this purpose. Despite what we’ve seen or heard, we often don’t know where to turn or what steps to take for drug rehab and alcohol rehabilitation. At Treatment Centers, we understand how devastating drug addiction and alcoholism are and how daunting a task it can be to locate an appropriate drug addiction treatment center. We have a comprehensive directory of over 8,000 drug treatment centers and alcohol rehab programs designed to help addicts regain control of their lives. Understanding addiction is the first step to treating it and we provide addicts and their families with valuable information and resources to get a solid understanding of what addiction is and the importance of a quality drug rehabilitation center for recovery. Drug addiction and alcoholism are not the only problems our society faces with behavioral dysfunction. We also recognize and address the ongoing and potentially fatal effects of eating disorders, sex addiction, gambling addiction, and mental health disorders (dual diagnosis). Often, addictions and eating disorders are coupled with mental health issues, known as co-occurring disorders or dual diagnosis. The importance of investigating and addressing these issues is vital to recovery, and dual diagnosis treatment is widely available to help with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. At Treatment Centers, we provide information relating to everything from alcohol addiction and alcoholism to drug rehab treatment, and explore every part of the recovery process with comprehensive rehabilitation program resources world-wide.

Drug Addiction, Drug Rehabilitation Programs and Alcohol Treatment Centers: Learn About the Disease

We all have different experiences, beliefs, and lifestyles which make us unique in the lives we lead. The effects of addiction vary from person to person based on the individual. Addiction is characterized by behaviors that make the addict’s life become unmanageable due to compulsive drug use or alcohol consumption. Not everyone who does drugs or drinks alcohol is an addict, but the signs of addiction are subtle and often very easy to overlook. To determine whether you or a loved one is actually in need of drug addiction treatment, we offer a free and completely confidential assessment. By answering the questions on the assessment, we will be able to review the situation and one of our trained addiction professionals will contact you directly to further discuss the issues you are experiencing and possible solutions for recovery. Drug addiction and alcoholism are diseases and there is no class, race, or gender beyond their grasp. Drug addiction and alcoholism begin with the occasional use of drugs and alcohol, however many lives quickly spiral out of control from the addictive characteristics of alcohol and drugs. Drug addiction and alcoholism are insidious diseases because they mainly effect the brain and it’s functionality. Once drug addiction and alcoholism take hold, the brain adapts to the presence of these substances, convincing the addict that they need drugs or alcohol to function properly. With the brain being the center of human behavior, the addict has more than a craving for drugs and alcohol. Now there is a need, and drug addicts and alcoholics will do unfathomable things to obtain these substances for a feeling of “normality”. Since addiction is a brain disease, it must be treated as such and it is almost impossible to do so without the assistance of qualified addiction professionals in drug treatment centers and alcohol rehab programs.

Where to Start

Drug addiction and alcoholism are serious and potentially fatal diseases which require immediate, professional treatment. There are over 10,000 drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers across the country and thousands more abroad designed to treat every kind of addiction and co-occurring mental health disorder. When drug addicts and alcoholics are ready to get their lives back on track, finding the right drug rehab center makes the difference between life and death. Depending on the drugs abused, the first step in addiction treatment is often a process of removing the toxins of the drug from the body, referred to as detox. Detox is usually undertaken in a hospital setting with medical staff to monitor the withdrawal process. This is usually the most physically challenging part in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Like addiction treatment centers, and drug rehab centers, detox is available in most hospitals worldwide and at many private addiction treatment centers. In severe cases of drug addiction and alcoholism, detox can be very painful and sometimes fatal, causing seizures, black-outs, tremors, and nausea. To make the detox process more comfortable and prevent fatalities and other life-threatening consequences, it is vital for detox to take place in medically equipped facilities.

Once the detox process is completed, addicts and alcoholics are strongly advised to enter into a residential or outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center. For most addicts and alcoholics, the physical removal of drug and alcohol is not enough. Again, addiction is a brain disease and the absence of drugs and alcohol only worsen the problem unless coupled with a successful drug and alcohol addiction treatment program with the counsel and therapy of addiction specialists.

Treatment Centers offers a thorough list of detox programs, drug addiction rehabs, alcoholism treatment centers and sober living homes licensed and certified throughout the country including contact information and web addresses. It is imperative to do the research into these rehabilitation centers to find the appropriate addiction treatment program for each individual in need of rehabilitation, as many focus on specific needs, lifestyles, and philosophies. We are here to help with that research in any way we can, as the process is often overwhelming. Whether you prefer to contact us by phone or via email , we are dedicated to helping those in need find the path to recovery and will do all we can to assist you in your search.

What Can Be Expected From Addiction Treatment Programs?

Drug treatment centers and alcohol rehab programs are designed to provide addicts with the tools they need to abstain from drug use and live full, productive lives, free of substances. Addiction counselors meet with addicts on a group and individual basis to discuss the details of addiction and help addicts come to a clear understanding of their disease and how it effects them individually. Most drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers employ some of the same basic principles, such as education about the disease and counseling to teach new, healthy behaviors and patterns. Depending on the philosophies of each addiction treatment program, the manner of applying these principles varies from the common and traditional 12-step program to holistic, meditative methods, and religious based programs. Drug treatment and alcohol rehab come with varying expenses and locations. Depending on the finances available for treatment, rehab programs are offered from privately owned treatment centers as well as public, government funded programs which offer payment assistance, sliding scale payment plans and some that are completely free of cost. Usually drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are covered by insurance plans, though often attendees will be reimbursed a portion of the total treatment expense. It is vital to check with your insurance carrier for complete coverage information and in most cases, the treatment center of your choice will be happy to check coverage for you, sparing you the time consuming process of finding out on your own.

Since there are countless effects of addiction on each individual, depending on the drugs used and severity of the addiction, long-term residential treatment programs are often advised. Addicts attending a residential drug rehab program will live at the treatment center, usually home-like settings, receiving intensive care and therapy for a varying length of time. The standard length of an addiction treatment center is 28 -30 days, however many addicts require longer terms, lasting anywhere from 60 days to several months. Regardless of the time spent, or methodologies practiced, no drug rehab or alcohol treatment center will work without the addict’s full concentration and dedication to the program and his or her sobriety. No matter what, change comes from within and the addict or alcoholic must sincerely want the change to happen before it can take place.
